Symphony No.2 <Fight the Covid 19> David zhang
During the worst Covid 19 pandemic that the human race has ever encountered, Canadian - Chinese Composer David Zhang(CMC Member) spent nine months (May 2021 to Jan 2022) to creat thislarge -scale Symphony, This work is not only expresses the great disaster brought by the sudden new crown pneumonia to mankind , but also expresses the determination and will of the people of all ethnic groups around the world to overcome the epidemic under the threat of a serious epidemic , as well as ther confidence in a better life in the future! the works are completed by alternately using traditional and modern composition techniques, combining with each other and complementing each other. It is divided into four movements: Movement 1. Fighting the Ghosts> Movement 2. Morning (string ensemble) Movement 3, Flirtious Frenzy Movement 4, Conquering the Epidemic and Prosperity The audio of the whole song is often 35:02, and the performance time is about 45 minutes.
Movement 1 <Fighting the Demons> Variation of Sonada Form
This first theme of the vicious virus , the second theme of the vigorous anti- epidemic, and the development struggle of the two themes are the mai lines . With the beginning of the piece , the lyrical adagio of the strings and the poignan ending of the Violin Solo . The main idea of the music : People love a beautiful and happy life on the sunny land with blue sky and white clouds.However, human beingshave no predition and preparation for the sudden harm of the new crown epidemic.The roaring and swallowing roar from the bass instruments broght out the ferocious first theme of the new crown. After the presentation and debelopment of the first theme, we ushered in the secong theme of manking's courageeous fight against the epidemoc. What follows is the reproduction and develipment of the two themes .But an this time , manking did not overcome the epidemic, and ended the first movement with the mournfull solo of the chief Vilin.
Movement 2 <Mourning> (String Ensemble) A-B -A Complex Trilogy
Harsh Prelude leads to the lyrical theme of Section A's gref . The B is a variation and development of the grief for many times . The mournful melody of the Violin from the treble to the bottom and the Cello to the rhythm of the triplet with a strong sense of the vibration are reversed from the low to the high the .grief and indignation have benn pushed to the climax step by step ! The third part A, retirns to the original theme of grief and mourning . Song meaning : What ! THe epidemic has ravaged people, and I don't know how many people have passed away one after another ! Tears foll like rain ! Crematoriums are too late to burn coroses. In some places , people dig large pits on the spot and theow corpses in to them for burial.
Movement 3. <Flirtious Frenzy> Varition Rondo
A theme of spooky viruses . led by fixed drum beats ,teases humanity. The positive theme of the 3/8 beat, somposed of the minor second interval, appears in reincarnation on various combinations of instruments , and can display an inexplicable Frivolous Frenzy .
Movement 4 <Conquering the Epidemic and Prosperity >
Variton in Sonada Form and Complex Trilogy Form
The movement 4 is the central movement of the Symphong No 2. <Fight the Covid 19> . The structure is complex and the music is ups and downs. At the begining, it was meditation and heaven asking . People screamed in tge sky, where did the virus come from? Why so endlessly tormenting human beings? The theme is from slow to fast , leading to the anti-epidemic theme of the sonorous and powfull Orchetra. The middle is a large lyrical polyphonic chapter in 3/4 time , which expresses peaple's desire and yearning for a better life . Then there is the reproduction and development of the anti-epidemic theme. After reaching the climax step by step, it leads to the triumph of victory (interlude). At the climax, the percussion cadenza awe-inspiring! In the end , People look out the victory over the epidemic with a stormy full performance!1
